The AK-47, Automatic Kalashnikov 1947, is a Soviet assault rifle seen widely during the Syphon Filter series.
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain
The AK is seen in the Belarus missions, used by CDP personnel. The player can acquire and use it, but due to its design, its recoil is jumpy, making it inferior compared to the M-16.
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
The AK is used by ZP soldiers during the UN assault on Bosnia. Unlike The Omega Strain's version, it is somehow more accurate and possesses less recoil.
It can also be unlocked by the player if one scores 15 headshots during Meeting with Fate.
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
The AK is used by al-Jamil guards who are encountered during the raid on Bitar's bunker.
Trivia
- The AK is commonly compared with the American M-16. Although the former is indestructible and will function even in extreme conditions, the latter was more accurate during combat.
- The PK-102, from the trilogy, is an AK variant.
- It can only be unlocked in Dark Mirror: in every other game it is seen in, it can never be selected from the equipment menu.
- In the Gulf War, several American soldiers opted to use the AK instead of their standard-issue M-16 because the latter constantly jammed due to sand, and the enemies were incredibly intimidated by their own weapons being used against themselves.
