Black King was one of several unit commanders in the Red Section hierarchy, and like others he had a codename which seemed to match a common theme among operatives on assignment. As with Black Viper and White Scorpion sharing animal names, Black King has one that references a deck of cards and it is also seen with commander Red Jack. While Viper and Scorpion operated in Iquitos, Black King, along with Jack, were sent by Singularity to Alaska to obtain information on Dark Mirror.
He supervised the entire attack as Red Jack's units secured the KemSynth oil refinery. After Red Jack's murder by Gabe Logan, Black King ordered a more aggressive search of the premises until they captured NSA agent Jack Miller and site foreman Malcolm Freeman. Red Section then planted explosives to cover their tracks, but Logan shot him before he could trigger the detonation.
The onsite Red Section CO, who's wired the entire facility to detonate. As with the Fatman fight in Metal Gear Solid 2, you have to deal with multiple threats simultaneously: the explosives which you need to diffuse, and Black King who you must evade. Fortunately, unlike the Fatman fight, you only have to take out 5 explosives, and then you can focus on the boss.
This one is a little tough. You need to tell Lian to cover you so Black King is shooting at her then run to a bomb, deactivate it, then run back to the little metallic container in the middle of the room. Turn on your EDSU goggles if you can't find 5 of them!
- The first is beside the container without the large cylinder sticking out.
- The second is under the stairwell.
- Three are behind your starting point.
- Once you've disarmed these, you can then kill Black King.
Alternatively, from the mission's start, use the RTL to bypass the gap in the floor and enter the room to your left. Grab the EMP grenades from the table, and toss one into the explosives room where you fight Black King. Doing this will instantly render the bombs ineffective, so you can use an explosive dart to wear down the enemy commander.
