For the first time, I didn't have any answers. I went into Niculescu's office complex expecting to find the answers to everything: his involvement with Meta Global Funds, Mara, Ivankov, Syphon Filter... but we found nothing. It hit me hard. What if I was wrong? Or worst, what if I was right? That Niculescu was better than me, smarter, playing me, had been from the start...I was near the edge by then, obsessed, irrational. I'm sure I wasn't thinking clearly, but I knew one thing: I had jeopardised the Agency, and everyone's careers, by going into Zurich against orders. And I had failed. If I was going to get evidence on Niculescu, I was going to have to do it alone. I had to risk everything. Gambling that won't Niculescu was too smart to keep records in Zurich. Maybe he wasn't as smart as he thought. He kept his most valuable paintings in his villa. Maybe he kept other things of value there as well...

—Gabe Logan, Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain

Budva, Montenegro: Niculescu's Villa Estate is the sixteenth mission in Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. Following the botched attempt to raid the Meta Global tower previously, where he defied official orders from the President of America by pursuing his obsession with Mihai Niculescu, but failed to find evidence that incriminated said individual, Gabe endeavours to search the man's home itself in a last-ditch effort to connect the billionaire with the Syphon Filter conspiracy. The mission is unlocked by completing Lorelei, Tokyo, Myanmar and Zurich in solo par.

Walkthrough

For the fourth and last bonus mission, you will be playing as none other than Gabe Logan, the man himself!

A slight difference is that even if you do compromise stealth, the mission continues regardless - unlike the rest of the bonus missions. However, this will trigger a 5-minute timer, during which you MUST rescue Mara, otherwise you'll get mission failure. Remember that if this happens, you will NOT be able to "par" the mission. Otherwise, the mission is almost the same as the other bonus ones, with the neck snap ability usable. Any deaths will restart the entire mission. (As an added bonus, you WILL be able to pick up enemy weapons during this mission, including the series-infamous USAS-12!)

1) Sneak walk slightly around the corner and to the right, to initiate a conversation. Now return to the mission start. (Objective added: Stop Mara Aramov's execution)

2) A guy will come down the stairs across the way on the left. Taser him. Turn around and then taser the guy coming down the set of stairs to your right.

3) Now run to the left of that set of stairs where you shocked the first guy. (*) This will sound crazy, but the reason for running is to get the guy upstairs with the grenade launcher to hear you (you won't lose stealth). (*) This brings the guy by this staircase faster, rather than waiting for him.

4) Mr. Grenade Launcher (certainly not "Mr Blue Sky"!) will start coming by this staircase, taser him when he does. Now only 2 more guys to go outside here...

5) Go back near where you started the mission, and to the stairs that were on your right. Watch the patrol of the guards.

6) Both guards patrol outside the house left-to-right - one on the lower floor and the other on a balcony up high.

7) In between the 2 sets of stairs, use the back left corner and to try to get a good view of the balcony. The one guard who walks in and out of the house and walks back and forth on this balcony.

8) The guard will stop at the left end of the balcony (right side of the left-most window) for a few seconds - snipe him.

9) Sneak up the seconds set of stairs and hide near the closest pillar.

10) Stand up and wait for the patrolling guy on the floor to walk from the left side of the house to the right. He stops halfway across at the bottom of some stairs. When he goes up and walks to the right side and stops, QUICKLY zoom in and snipe him.

11) Head in the courtyard, run to your left past the water fountain. Continue running right up to the house.

12) Go left and open the small wooden gate in front of you. In here are the controls for the fountains - "pull the switch".

13) Go back to where the fountain was - it is now dry. Climb on the fountain and look for a hole - there is a ladder leading down. (*) You should be at about the 3:00 mark

14) Turn on the flashlight and take the path to your right (to the left is the door near where you started the mission).

15) At the intersection, go right (turn off the flashlight) and taser the guy in this room at the end.

16) Run/roll into the room and head up the stairs straight ahead of you (be very quiet now!)

17) Take out the guy up here in the kitchen - because of all the clutter, you'll want to switch to your VSS and snipe him rather than taser him.

18) Get close to the hallway to trigger two guards - wait here in the kitchen for them to stop talking. One will walk by the hallway in front of you - give him a shock to his system.

19) Quickly sneak out of the kitchen, heading in the hallway and to your left. There is a room with lots of paintings, watch the guard on your radar. When he turns away from you, go in the room and shock him.

20) On the right wall of this art room (facing the entrance), at the end, is a painting. Move it aside and open the vault. > Objective Complete: Find evidence linking Niculescu to Syphon Filter > Hidden Objective Complete: Find Zeus files on Mara Aramov

21) Back out in the hallway, carefully move until a guy appears on your radar to the right. He is in the room with the double doors - get him to kick the doors open and give him the shock of his life. (*) You can also trigger this guy by heading back near the stairs - he'll come out of the door to your left (facing the stairway).

22) Pick up the key off this guy's corpse and head through the house. You'll eventually hit a dead end and turn left. (*) You should be close to the 6:00 mark > Objective Complete: Find the key to Niculescu's bedroom

23) Follow the hallway down a ways. As you get near an "arch, there is an open door on your left and 2 guards talking.

24) BEFORE they finish, head BACK to the room right before this hallway and hide! The 2 guards come down this hallway eventually.

25) When both guards stop and turn around, and go for the double headshot! (talk about getting 2 birds with one stone!) If you can't line them both up, the VSS is luckily still a silenced weapon, so you can take your second shot without any delay.

26) Follow this hall to the end now and head up the stairs. Be careful on your way up. There's some guys on your way up.

27) Sneak up each set of stairs until you can auto-aim to one of the guys. Zoom in and then snipe him.

28) Carefully head up the stairs and snipe the other guy by the bedroom door.

29) Walk near the bedroom door (DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR YET!!!) and wait quietly for the conversation here to finish. (*) If you don't wait for the conversation to finish, the guy on the left will shoot/kill Mara unless you can waste him FAST like The Flash. (*) If you've followed my pattern, the conversation will finish just slightly after the 8:00 mark

30) When the idiots are done talking, bust open the door and take them both out with the Abram 2000 you've picked up off everyone. (*) Start with the guy on your right. The guy on the left, that would normally shoot/kill Mara, just stupidly waits there for his death, staring at her (don't ask me why, perhaps he wants to screw her). > Objective Complete: Stop Mara Aramov's execution

 Trivia

  • This is the first and only mission in the game where enemies will physically carry the USAS-12 automatic assault shotgun, which Gabe previously used against Erich Rhoemer and Jason Chance. The latter is even mentioned in the weapon's description.
    • However, the USAS-12 can also be acquired through the magic box glitch during other missions, or with cheat devices.
  • This is the only bonus mission that allows you to continue even if stealth is compromised.
  • This is one of the few missions in the series where you have to rescue an antagonistic character.
  • Gabe claims he will not use lethal force unless he knows Niculescu is behind the Syphon Filter fiasco but it is possible to kill every person in the mission.
  • It is possible to nail the two guards who patrol the staircase area with a double headshot.
  • This is the only bonus mission in the game to finish with a cutscene that continues from the player's actual position. The remaining bonus missions' cutscenes all cut back to IPCA headquarters.
  • This is the only bonus mission where enemies drop weapons which you can collect.
  • It is also the only bonus mission where dead bodies disappear.
  • This is the only mission in the game where players can assume Gabe's role.

Goofs

Continuity

  • Some enemies may equip flak jackets when the player attempts the mission for the first time, but when the mission restarts, they somehow lose their armour.

Factual errors

  • Gabe is holding a pistol in the ending cutscene, despite having a sniper rifle and taser for the rest of the mission.

Miscellaneous

  • Although Mara was portrayed as somehow able to shrug off headshots in Syphon Filter and the third game, she is somehow shown to be a normal mortal being, who can indeed be killed with bullets.
