Fatha al-Hassan is a minor antagonist in Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain.
Al-Hassan was a political renegade in his home country of Yemen, but he turned his fortunes around in the mid-eighties when his forces seized control of the government in the capital city Sana'a. The new Yemeni Liberation Authority (YLA) murdered the ruling family and allowed for al-Hassan to take control in the city's Taherir Palace.
As a leader, Al-Hassan ran a brutal regime where opponents or dissidents were concerned. He crushed all possible opportunity of resistance to his authority through deterring rebellion or any other form of non-compliance. The torments practised against those he suspected of sedition, or to be in possession of details of such people, were hinted at only in the lowest whispers and the darkest corners.
The country leader would use his attack dog, enforcer and right-hand man Walid Abdul Khorsh to inflict atrocities against his own people, and the sheer, stark terror generated by the rumours of what he did to those deemed a threat to his rule - who were subsequently arrested and captured for interrogation and torture - kept the populace within perpetual fear. Khorsh represented the fear that al-Hassan installed in the country to discipline opponents, while protection from the Dhar Judeem warriors assured him absolute security against assassination.
The YLA often sold weapons on the black market to terrorists who arranged attacks in the Middle East, and Al-Hassan arranged to obtain weapons, including Scud missiles, from an unknown NATO nation. This information prompted agents from Israel's Mossad - the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations - to investigate Al-Hassan's dealings.
Ehud Ben Zohar was the agent that infiltrated the city of Sana'a before learning of a deal between Al-Hassan and Yushchenko of the Chechen Democratic Partizans to buy the Omega Strain. Agency operatives cooperated with Mossad on the mission, but Zohar manipulated them into helping with an assassination of Al-Hassan. Although the Dhar Judeem interfered with this attempt on their leader's life, their attempts proved fruitless. After destroying the Scud firing mechanism, the Agency recovered the YLA's weapons contracts, evaded the security personnel, and continued their investigation elsewhere. The Yemeni government and authorities issued a statement following the assassination to say that no coup had occured in the country.
