Freedom Memorial is the fifth mission of Syphon Filter and the conclusion of the Washington D.C. Attack. It takes place in the Freedom Memorial building in Washington Park, picking up directly where the Washington Park mission left off. The first boss battle of the series occurs here against Anton Girdeux.
Gabe has made it to the Freedom Memorial building where the main viral bomb is located. Before CBDC can come in and disarm it, he must deal with Girdeux, a maniacal French terrorist armed with a flamethrower and an impenetrable suit of armor.

Spysat has completed a detailed analysis of Girdeux's body armor: it is impervious to all conventional weapons. Our armor specialists are working on it, but your agent may have to improvise to find a weak point.
Our demolition expert has noted that the use of any explosive device will trigger the viral bomb.
Opening Cutscene Dialog
Gabe: "Anton Girdeaux! I hope Rhoemer's paying you enough to die for him!"
Girdeux: "Gabriel Logan! Always the optimist. Look around Logan! This hall contains a mosaic depicting the entire history of your country's wars and aggression. We are about to make an addition to it!"
Gabe: "I don't think so, Girdeux. It ends here!"
Lian: "Gabe, Girdeux's wearing full body armor. You've got to find a weak spot!"
Main article: Anton Girdeux
Girdeux's armor is impenetrable to small arms and Gabe cannot use grenades or the M-79 because they will trigger the viral bomb. His only weak spot is the fuel tank worn on his back. Gabe must maneuver so that he can get a clean shot at the fuel tank. Shooting the tank several times will result in a small explosion, enough to stagger Girdeux but not trigger the bomb. Gabe must continue firing at the fuel tank repeatedly. Eventually, the fuel tank will rupture and burst into flames. Girdeux, trapped in the armor, collapses and burns to death.
It is important that Gabe stay behind cover as much as possible, as Girdeux's flamethrower is instantly lethal. Girdeux will not fire until the Danger bar is completely full. Once it is full, Girdeux will unload a salvo of flaming gel, which can bounce off of surfaces and will remain lit for about 1 minute. Strafing into a roll is the quickest way to escape Girdeux's fire. Ammo boxes are scattered around the perimeter of the room.
- If the player maneuvers Gabe directly behind Girdeux, they will see that Girdeux's blast shield does not cover the back of his head. This would make for an easy headshot, but the developers missed this when creating the model, so this is also invincible.
- Attempting to use the taser brings up a unique "Armor" indicator instead of the usual "Flak Jacket."
- This level is the first instance of the sounds of certain weapons being switched. In this case, the regular shotgun sounds like the Combat Shotgun.
