The Glock 17 is a polymer-based, recoil operated semi-automatic handgun chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. Its usage is widespread amongst government, military, security and law enforcement organizations around the world, as well as with terrorist organizations like Black Baton and the shadowy Agency which posed as a front for Vincent Hadden's arms consortium.
A silenced variant of the pistol was often in use by Gabe Logan, Lawrence Mujari and Lian Xing as a weapon of choice during the Syphon Filter Conspiracy. Logan later replaced it with the Silenced Mark 23.

Behind the Scenes
In the first three Syphon Filter games, the Glock 17 is designated as the 9mm and had many lifelike characteristics, apart from the magazine capacity which was 15 rather than 17. The weapon was described in the first three games as being the standard-issue sidearm for NATO and all five branches of the US Armed Forces after being approved in 1979, however in reality the weapon was designed only three years later and was not employed by US law enforcement agencies until sometime later. The US military never formally endorsed the use of Glock pistols in the field.
