”Reports have been coming in for two days. A local insurgency that has simmered for years has flared up for no good reason.

These were taken by the mop-up team at KemSynth. Zeus has been running a face-match program all night. We've got several matches. Including this one. This photo was taken in Iquitos the day violence broke out. His codename is White Scorpion. He's been ID-éd on three other Red Section ops.
Two KemSynth locations, two Red Section attacks? It can't be a coincidence.
No. It can't. Whatever's going on, Addison's got herself right in the middle of it. Again.
The Investigation of KemSynth Botanics was a major confrontation in Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, involving Gabe Logan attempting to acquire Addison Hargrove in Iquitos, Peru, where Red Section forces had allied with revolutionary soldiers to raid the area.
The conflict was generally successful for the IPCA, although there were multiple NSA operatives found killed in action throughout a few areas. Despite this, it was the Peruvian Revolutionary War Council that ultimately suffered significant casualties.
While the IPCA was successful in recovering flower samples, Addison Hargrove refused to divulge any critical information regarding the KemSynth projects, and subsequently vaporised. Gabe and his team were left to investigate different leads, only to encounter her later when she asked for his help.
Events
Headquarters flashback
Teresa: The refinery was DEFINITELY a front. KemSynth was working on something called Project Dark Mirror. At this point, we have NO idea what kind of project they were working on, but we've uncovered a few leads. The NSA has been monitoring KemSynth for the past several months, trying to gain intel on a research project KemSynth refers to as Dark Mirror. We know it has something to do with the hydroponics lab you discovered in Alaska.
Mujari: The plant sample you collected is from an unknown species.
Gabe: Explain.
Mujari: It is distantly related to Cochleanthes Amazonica, but has cellular properties I've NEVER before seen. This sample has been gene spliced. To what effect has yet to be determined.
Gabe: HOW do you know it's been modified?
Mujari: A short snippet of material from the bacteria E. Coli has been inserted here. There are other strange insertions here, and here. And this splice, here, has us ESPECIALLY concerned. Not sure what organism it comes from, but we'll match it soon.
Teresa: I've got ANOTHER surprise. KemSynth has operations all over North and South America. Not only do they have large stakes in petroleum, chemicals, and manufacturing, but they have ALSO heavily invested in exporting and research. Kreisler's plants were being shipped from a company called KemSynth Botanicals, in Peru. You'll NEVER guess who's head of security there.
While Alima nears the insertion point at the Amazon River Basin, Gabe wanders about the briefing he was given earlier. Teresa reports KemSynth was working on Project Dark Mirror. The NSA was monitoring the refinery, trying to acquire info on Dark Mirror.
Teresa's realisation
Teresa: At first I didn't even recognize the name. She was gone BEFORE I started with the Agency, so you CAN'T really blame me... But something clicked. Sure enough, it's the SAME woman. Remember her?
Lian: Oh, he remembers her.
Gabe: Addison Hargrove.
Teresa: You two worked together, right?
Gabe: We were partners. My first year with the Agency.
Teresa: WHAT happened?
Gabe: She quit the Agency. I DON'T know why. I couldn't ask her, because I NEVER saw her again.
Teresa's information digging produces a woman whose name she doesn't recognise. Since the character had left before Lipan joined the Agency, she only vaguely knew some information. However, she later has a light bulb moment and Gabe recalls Addison Hargrove. He was her partner in the first year with the Agency, both as a romantic figure and professionally. Lipan tries to ask Gabe what exactly happened, but Gabe replies that for reasons unknown she left the organisation.
Addison's departure
Gabe: What ARE you doing Addison?
Hargrove: Let me go!. I told you Gabe. I HAVE to leave.
Gabe: You HAVEN'T told me anything.
Hargrove: I'm sorry Gabe.
Somewhere else, at a point prior to the game, Addison is with Gabe, insisting that she has to leave for unknown reasons.
Search for Addison Hargrove
Upon being dropped off, Gabe heads towards the area where Hargrove is, and finds her being held at gunpoint by Black Viper. He takes down the opposition and unties her. Both then make their way to her files.
The last of Ortega's war crimes
Ortega: ¿Por qué no te lo haces fácil, eh?/ ¡Dije mírame!/ Harás lo que digo
Young Woman: Por favor, señor. Déjame ir/ No me hagas daño.
Sneaking into an out-of-the way area, Gabe finds a serial rapist and killer, Luis Ortega, harassing a young victim. He kills the criminal and finds evidence that Ortega was released from prison and paid to help Red Section find a way into the incursion zone.
